Lake Hardy from Schoolhouse Springs Trailhead
via East Hamongog

Hike Time (roundtrip): 6.0 to 10.0 hours
 Distance (roundtrip): 9.4 miles
 Elevation Gain: 4790 feet
 Main Aspect: South
Climb Rate: 1019 feet per mile
 Average Grade: 19%
Notes: After going through East Hamongog meadow and crossing a stream, you’ll come across another junction. Take the left fork, which goes up the mountain toward Chipman Peak. I’ve gone this route more than the 2nd Hamongog route. If you leave early, you’re in shade most of the way up. After rounding Chipman Peak to the left, you just follow the cairns to the lake. 9

Trailhead Outhouse: No

Notes: To get to the Schoolhouse Springs trailhead, follow the main road north through Alpine. It will eventually curve to the east. Turn north on Grove Street. It goes north with a sharp 90 degree curve to the east. Take the first left after the curve, then the first left off that road. Follow the dirt road to the Lehi Water Tank. The trail starts when you crawl through the gate.

Waypoint 1
First Hamongog
 Elevation: 7100  Feature: Meadow
Notes: First, what is a hamongog? In this instance, it means moutain meadow. The name is derived from a reference in the bible meaning Valley of the multitudes of Gog. The trail is to this meadow is somewhat boring. However, all trails leading away are fantastic. The trail splits here, the left for continues to 2nd Hamongog and the right trail go to East Hamongog.
Waypoint 2
East Hamongog
 Elevation: 7280  Feature: Meadow
Notes: It’s not as well known as the other 2 hamongogs (meadows), and people passing through might not even realize they are in the hamongog. Still, in my opinion, its the easiest way to Lake Hardy.

Destination
Lake Hardy
 Elevation: 10300  Feature: Lake
Notes: This is a great destination. When I was there in 2007, someone had rubber boats stashed. I heard they stock the lake with fish. This would be a good base for climbing Bighorn, South Thunder or Chipman Peak.
