Notes: This is a very scenic, but very steep trail. You go east up Phelps Canyon, out of Dry Creek. The trail gets very steep at the point where the ridge swings from eastwest to north/south. Once you get up to the arm of Box Elder, it levels off a bit. 9

Notes: Dry Creek is a popular trailhead with hikers and horse riders, located in the northeast corner of Alpine. It is one of the few trailheads left in Alpine that does not cross private land and is assured of never being cut off by development. The trailhead is at the end of the road that goes past the Alpine Rodeo Grounds.

Notes: At the point where the ridgeline to your left turns and heads south up the mountain, go to the ridgeline for a great view of Horsetail Falls. This is a good turning around point if you’re out for a short hike.
